Extension of suspension of taxation on real estate capital gains and of imposition of VAT on transfers of newly constructed buildings
According to Greek tax Law, a capital gains tax at a rate of 15% applies for individuals on the profit resulting from the difference between the original purchase price paid and the subsequent sale price received for each real estate property.

Greece welcomes the Central Ultimate Beneficial Owner Register
As of January 30, 2019, the Central Ultimate Beneficial Owner (“UBO”) Register will become fully operative in Greece.
In particular, Greece has finally transposed into local law Directive (EU) 2015/849 “on the prevention of the use of the financial system for the purposes of money laundering or terrorist financing” (the “Directive”), which inter alia provides for the establishment of a central register with which ultimate beneficial owners of all legal entities are to be registered, in an effort to increase transparency and contribute to the minimization of money laundering and terrorist financing practices.

EU Publishes List of Non-Cooperative Tax Jurisdictions
Οn 5 December 2017, the Finance Ministers of the EU Member States agreed on the first ever EU list of non-cooperative tax jurisdictions with the expectation to raise the level of tax good governance globally and help prevent the largescale tax abuse.
Ιn particular, 17 countries are listed for failing to meet agreed tax good governance standards. In addition, 47 countries have committed to addressing deficiencies in their tax systems and to meet the required criteria, following contacts with the EU.
