Michael K. Poulakos

Career

Michael-C. Poulakos is one of the founding partners of Avramopoulos & Partners Law Firm and is currently heading up the Firms Labour and Litigation Departments. He has extensive experience across the entire labour and employment law spectrum, including litigation and labour dispute resolution. He has advised many Greek and multinational companies on various labour and employment law matters such as employment contracts, termination and post termination matters, structuring employment and benefit arrangements, negotiating and developing employee regulations and handbooks, occupational health and safety matters, collective bargaining agreements and negotiations with trade unions, social security issues, and assignment/secondment agreements. He also handles cases involving disputes, agency and distributorship agreements, breach of contract, fraud, creditor's rights on bankruptcy, banking and commercial torts.

Prior to becoming a partner at Avramopoulos & Partners Law Firm, he was a partner at another Athens-based law firm. In 1993, he worked as Special Counsel to the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Social Security and contributed to the drafting of a legislative scheme for this Ministry entitled, Measures for the Treatment/Resolution of the Nations Demographic Problem.

  • Legal advice and representation before the pertinent courts of Athens for the Greek subsidiary of a global company in the technology sector in a pending litigation with a Greek IT company; also, provision of legal advice in relation to the Greek subsidiary's dispute (and threatened litigation) with various travel agencies due to breach of contract by the latter and the termination of their cooperation.
  • Provision of legal advice and services and court representation of a subsidiary of a Greek bank on certain employment litigation matters.
  • Provision of legal advice and services and court representation for a company leader in consumer transaction technologies on certain employment litigation matters.
  • Provision of legal advice and legal services to a Greek bank for the sale of a mortgaged vessel through a public auction.
  • Provision of legal services and court representation to a Greek bank for the issuance of orders for payment upon the termination of loan agreements for the purchase of yachts, due to non-payment.
  • Drafting and filing of a petition for the annulment as well as a petition for suspension of the implementation of the decision of the Ministry of Health before the Supreme Administrative Court of Greece; this decision regarded the prohibition of the outdoor advertisement of tobacco products.
  • Acting as legal counsel for a leading German-based company, provider of genomic services, in its pending court litigation with its former distributor in Greece.
  • Legal advice and court representation of a well-known company of the global lighting market in various debt collection matters.
  • Legal advice to the Greek subsidiary of a global manufacturer of confectionery and gum in a commercial dispute pertaining to an agency agreement.
